What’s good y’all? Welcome to HOOP TALK; everything basketball from a hoopers perspective. My name is Kyle Randall. I have played basketball my entire life. I eat, sleep, and breathe everything basketball. I had an okay career; 2,000+ point scorer in HS, played Division I at UNC-Greensboro and Central Michigan, then went on to play professionally for six years. I had stints overseas, NBA Summer leagues, and the NBA G-league (even the NBA D-league, I’m old haha). Now my passion is in training and development. I want to help as many players as I can in this game. I was blessed with opportunities to compete at high levels where I learned a ton of knowledge so I feel like I have a duty to pass that knowledge on. And although I am happy with what I am doing, I still feel like I am not doing enough. There is still more I can offer to this game and its culture.
Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed writing. Anybody who knows me can tell you that I am not a huge talker. However, when I do speak, people tend to listen. I never really understood why, but I am not complaining. Anyways, back to writing; I’ve always loved it because it was easier to express my thoughts in this way rather than speaking it. My thoughts flow easier from mind to paper than mind to mouth. This is why I started this blog. I love hoops and everything about it so why not write about it? Why not let people inside my mind when it comes to this game? There are so many “experts” out there that talk basketball. They have these huge followings of people who hold onto every word, but yet they’ve never even hooped a day in their life. I don’t mean that to come off disrespectfully or anything, but I mean come on, wouldn’t you want to hear basketball topics discussed by basketball players? That’s like reading an article from DIY magazine by a person who never actually did the project. “Oh it's okay, I watched somebody else do it so I know how.” Yeah exactly my point; doesn’t make much sense, right? I mean I know these “experts” are super intelligent and study the game a ton. But they still lack that hoopers perspective. They base content on politics, narratives, and analytics more than genuine feel, passion, and IQ of the game. As hoopers, we see things through a different lens. Things weight out differently to us because we’ve actually been in these situations, or seen these things up close. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me but I think people out there want that; hoop junkies and enthusiast want that. And like I said, no disrespect to the “experts”. I know y’all will continue to do what you do and people will continue to follow. To that I say, to each it’s own. I am going to jump in this lane now though and see where it goes.
So what you can expect from this blog is real perspective about basketball topics from the mind of a hooper. I’ll talk about NBA, college, high school, and more. This is for the culture. I think basketball has some crazy momentum right now and is becoming the top sport to be a part of so this fresh new perspective is needed. Content like All The Smoke, No Chill Podcast, Knuckleheads, etc. are all doing it. People want to hear hoopers talk about hoops, period. Now I will warn you, these are MY opinions. I am not saying they’re right, I am not saying they’re perfect, but they will be well thought out, and well supported with facts and logic. Some people will like it what I have to say, and some people won’t. Either way, like or dislike, I hope everybody reads it. My goal is for it to spark thought and conversation while giving you a new perspective on how you look at certain things in the basketball world. So once again, welcome to HOOP TALK. I hope you enjoy!
